Former assistant coach of Xavi Hernandez returns to Qatar following Barcelona sacking

It’s been one month since Xavi Hernandez and his assistants were sacked by Barcelona, with Joan Laporta opted for a new start at the Catalan giants. Hansi Flick succeeded the 44-year-old, who is expected to take a considerable amount of time off before deciding on his next move in management.

Sergio Alegre, one of Xavi’s former assistants, has taken no time at all to make his return to football, and it’s at a familiar stomping ground. As reported by MD, he has joined Al-Sadd as a member of their technical staff.

Alegre was Xavi’s no.2 at Al-Sadd when he was previously manager there, and the pair made the move to Barcelona in November 2021. He now returns to Qatar on his own – it’s yet to be decided whom he will be working alongside on this occasion.

There’s no doubt that Xavi will be keeping an eye on his former assistant’s return to Al-Sadd, while he will also be following Barcelona as a fan for the forthcoming 2024-25 season and beyond.
