Why Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams were playing rock-paper-scissors after Spain win

Spain trounced Georgia in the second half of their clash on Sunday night, setting up a quarter-final date with Germany on Friday. The two stars of the show were once again Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams, who matched their brio on the pitch with fun off it.

The pair were dancing together after Williams’ goal, not just around defenders on Sunday night, and at the end of the match, the two were spotted playing rock-paper-scissors. Speaking to Cadena Cope, Williams revealed the reason behind it.

“You can tell they are my friends, and we were arguing over the bottle of water, to see who drank first.”

“Lamine hasn’t had any luck in front of goal but he is a fantastic player. It will come to him, he doesn’t have to be in a hurry because he is very good.”

“This week he’s going to have to put up with me because he hasn’t scored so I hope that in the next game he can shut me up. We challenge each other in every game.”

While Lamine Yamal told OK Diario that he had no doubt that it would indeed be ‘putting up with Nico Williams’.

“It was very important to go to the quarterfinals. It was our objective. And we are ready for the next game. Nico Williams is going to be a little annoying after his match. I told him not to start because I will score in the next game.”

The two flying wingers have captured the imagination in Spain, and manager Luis de la Fuente to his credit has been brave enough to trust the teenager with a starting role, with good alternatives at his disposal. Coming up against Germany next will undoubtedly be the biggest test for La Roja, with die Mannschaft capable of forcing Spain back into their own half much more often.
