Former Portugal star concerned by Joao Felix’s ‘stagnation’

Joao Felix faces a career crossroads this summer as he aims to stay at Barcelona.

The Portugal international will not make a firm call on his plans until after Euro 2024 but the picture is unclear.

Felix has openly stated his desire to stay in Catalonia after spending the 2023/24 campaign on loan at La Blaugrana.

Parent club Atletico Madrid are open to a sale, but they will not budge on an €80m asking price, which Barcelona cannot afford.

Barcelona continue to negotiate another loan with Atletico Madrid keen to insert a mandatory purchase clause in 2025.

As the speculation continues to swirl, major questions have been raised over Felix’s form and his long term suitability for Barcelona.

Former Portugal international Maniche has offered his view on the situation and he believes Felix’s progress is on a downward spiral.

“You have to wonder why he’s stagnated. In football, talent alone is not enough. You have to be competitive”, as per quotes from Diario AS.

“Joao has talent, but we talked about this four years ago, and in all the clubs he’s been, he’s been very inconsistent.

“He needs to take a moment, think about what he’s done, and do things differently.”

Felix netted seven La Liga goals at Barcelona last season, with ten in all competitions, matching his best campaign tallies for Atletico Madrid.
