Hansi Flick stance on Luis Diaz, Nico Williams and left winger debate at Barcelona

Barcelona have been heavily linked with a signing a left winger this summer, with no natural wide player that is used to operating there currently in their squad, albeit Raphinha, Joao Felix and Ansu Fati have all played there regularly. The two names most heavily linked with the club are Liverpool’s Luis Diaz and Athletic Club’s Nico Williams.

Given the cost of both, it’s been a consistent line of reporting that neither will arrive unless Barcelona secure sales, and in this case, the key one would be Raphinha. However the debate between Diaz and Williams has been heated amongst the Barcelona fanbase, with one offering more experience and more goals, the other more of a problem for defences and plenty of room for growth.

Thus far it has been presented as the ‘club’ – presumably directors and perhaps the president –  that prefers Williams, while Sporting Director Deco feels Diaz makes more sense. Sport now say that manager Hansi Flick is more keen on Williams. Hull City winger Jaden Philogene is also an alternative if their financial situation makes Diaz or Williams unfeasible. The same outlet also not that a midfielder remains the priority before a winger, meaning the budget for any winger will have to wait some weeks.
