Four Real Madrid players make Champions League history following 2024 success

Real Madrid notched their 15th title in the Champions League on Saturday, extending their record as the competition’s most successful club in the process. Four of their players also made history at Wembley Stadium, those being Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Nacho Fernandez and Dani Carvajal.

Kroos, Modric, Nacho and Carvajal all picked up their sixth success in the competition, which takes them level with legendary Real Madrid forward Paco Gento, who also won six when it was known as the European Cup. He won all six with Los Blancos (1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1906 and 1966), as have Modric, Nacho and Carvajal (2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2022 and 2024). Kroos did not win 2014, his first came for Bayern Munich the year prior.

Kroos will not be able to go for seven, given that he is retiring after Euro 2024, but the other three can leave Gento behind. Modric is staying for another season, while Carvajal is also contracted until 2025. Nacho’s situation at Real Madrid is less clear, and his future is likely to be decided in the coming days.
