Barcelona star “disgusted” by treatment from club officials amid uncertain contract situation

Because of Barcelona’s ongoing financial woes, the renewal of Sergi Roberto is beginning to lose traction. At this stage, club officials are prioritising other areas, much to the frustration of the 32-year-old club captain.

As per MD, Roberto feels “disgusted” by the treatment he has received from club officials, who had previously told him that he would receive a new contract irrespective of whether or not Xavi Hernandez continued as manager.

A further report from MD have stated that Roberto’s entourage do not expect an acceptable contract renewal to come the player’s way before his existing deal expires at the end of this month. He has received an offer, but it concludes a conditional clause that states that Roberto’s deal would be terminated if he cannot be registered by the start of the 2024-25 season.

Unfortunately, this situation sums up Barcelona in recent years. Whether or not Roberto deserves a new contract is irrelevant, but promising one to him only to take it away is poor conduct, especially considering the lengths he has gone to in helping the club with its financial situation.
