Antoine Griezmann’s Olympics dream crushed as Atletico Madrid breathe sigh of relief

Earlier this week, Antoine Griezmann revealed his desire to represent France at their home Olympic Games in Paris this summer. The 33-year-old is already playing for Les Bleus at Euro 2024, but his goal is to play in both competitions – something that Atletico Madrid are not willing to make happen.

It appears that Atleti will be the ones to prevail in this situation, as RMC Sport (via MD) have reported that Griezmann will not be called upon by France for the 2024 Olympics. The French Football Federation believe that Los Rojiblancos will not budge from their stance of not allowing their talisman to go.

Clubs do not need to allow their players to play at the Olympics, as it does not fall under FIFA jurisdiction. This means that Atletico Madrid, who want Griezmann to join up with his teammates for pre-season as early as possible, are not required to let him go, even if the FFF signal their intention to call him up. Good news for Diego Simeone and co.
