Real Betis add Brazilian international to defender shortlist

It promises to be a very busy summer transfer window for Real Betis, whose primary focus will be to add defenders to Manuel Pellegrini’s squad. Abner Vinicius, Juan Miranda, Chadi Riad and Sokratis are all set to leave in the coming weeks, and replacements are absolutely essential.

If Abner and Miranda both depart, Betis would need two new left-backs. They been linked with several options, and now another has popped on to their shortlist. According to Globo (via Marca), Porto’s Wendell has been discussed by Los Verdiblancos’ sporting department as a possible candidate.

Wendell joined Porto from Bayer Leverkusen in 2021, and over the last two seasons in particular, he has been in excellent form, which was earned him a call-up to Brazil’s squad for this summer’s Copa America. If he features, it could allow Betis the chance to run the rule over him further.

Real Betis will be desperate to get their defensive targets on point, as there is potential for a Top 4/5 finish next season if Pellegrini has the tools at his disposal. It remains to be seen who arrives at the Benito Villamarin.
