Manchester City midfielder offers himself to Barcelona

Barcelona are on the hunt for a midfielder this summer to replace Sergio Busquets, after their efforts to do so with Oriol Romeu was unsuccessful this year. A number have been linked to the Blaugrana, but Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips has decided to put himself on the radar.

After losing his spot in the Manchester City team, Phillips went on loan to West Ham in January, a move that did not work out and saw him on the bench again. Barcelona had been interested in the 28-year-old in January, but decided they could not offer him a deal on loan due to his salary.

Other Premier League sides are interested in Phillips for a move this summer, and City want to sell him for around €30m. Yet Phillips has offered himself to Barcelona, as per Sport, and if, as happened with Joao Cancelo, they cannot find a buyer, the Catalan giants may have the option to move for him.

Barcelona’s top target for the position is Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich, but he looks a difficult option financially. They have also agreed terms with Guido Rodriguez, but are facing a race against time to confirm that deal, while Valencia’s Pepelu is another who has caught their eye. Phillips is likely the second-cheapest option of the bunch, and perhaps that is where the chances of a deal lie.
