It had looked certain that Barcelona would be the destination for Guido Rodriguez this summer, as he departs on a free from Real Betis. As early as late April it was being reported that Barcelona had reached an agreement on terms with Rodriguez, but the deal is now in jeopardy.

As per MD, the agreement between Barcelona and Rodriguez is valid until the 31st of May, at which point it will expire. Barcelona need to improve their financial situation so they can register the World Cup-winner, but thus far that is yet to happen.

The Catalan daily go on to say that other sides have presented ‘interesting’ offers to Rodriguez, and he could well be tempted to explore those offers if Barcelona do no improve matters.
With Oriol Romeu set to depart this summer, and any deal for the likes of Joshua Kimmich a long way off, losing out on Rodriguez would threaten to leave Barcelona without a defensive presence in midfield for a second season in a row.
