Barcelona able to pay £50m release clause for Manchester City superstar in instalments

With Hansi Flick now officially appointed as Barcelona’s new manager, work can begin on identifying transfer targets – which the German coach will do with sporting director Deco. Xavi Hernandez’s departure could mean that previous candidates could be discarded, although others may be retained.

One player to have been heavily linked with Barcelona in recent months is Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva, whose dream is to play for the Catalan giants. The problem for both parties is that the Portuguese has a £50m release clause, which would be the asking price set by the Premier League champions.

Typically, a release clause is paid as a one-off payment, but according to Esport3 (via MD), Barcelona would be able to avoid doing this in Bernardo’s case. Instead, they would be able to pay the money across three instalments, which increases the chances of a deal taking place.

Barcelona would not have been able to afford a one-off payment, but three would be much more manageable. However, it just remains to be seen whether Flick wants the 29-year-old in his squad for next season.
