Valencia star stalls contract talks amid strong interest from Atletico Madrid

One of the biggest breakout stars in La Liga’s 2023-24 season was Valencia centre-back Cristhian Mosquera. The 19-year-old had an outstanding campaign, playing 38 matches across all competitions. Given the level of his performances, it’s no surprise that clubs are interested in signing him this summer, although Los Che have been trying to stop any suitors.

Mosquera’s current contract expires in 2026, and Valencia officials are desperate to organise a new deal in the coming weeks. However, Marca have reported that the teenage defender and his representatives are in no hurry to renew, and they want to see how the transfer window plays out.

This is good news for Atletico Madrid, who have Mosquera high on their shortlist of defensive targets. Diego Simeone wants at least one centre-back signed in the summer, and Mosquera is at the top of the list, alongside the likes of Real Sociedad and Spain star Robin Le Normand.

Mosquera is incredibly grateful to Valencia for the faith shown in him, especially by head coach Ruben Baraja. However, that may not be enough to keep him at the club, should Atleti come calling.
