Barcelona Sporting Director Deco provides report on ‘problematic’ transfer target

Barcelona Sporting Director Deco is going into his first full summer in his role, and after Vitor Roque’s move has so far proved less than successful, the pressure is on the Brazilian-Portuguese to show his worth. He has reportedly warned Barcelona off a move for one of their reported top targets this summer.

Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich is currently in contract talks with the Bavarian side, and would be open to signing for Barcelona this summer if those talks are not fruitful. Xavi Hernandez had reportedly identified him as a prime option for the base of midfield.

However as per Catalunya Radio, Deco told the rest of the recruitment department that Kimmich was a player that tends to cause issues in the dressing room, and could impact the spirit of the squad.

Nevertheless, if anyone should know about Kimmich, it is incoming manager Hansi Flick, who worked with him for two years as Bayern boss, and then again for two years as manager of Germany. It appeared Deco’s report did not have too much impact, with the 29-year-old reportedly turning down an offer from the Blaugrana.
