Barcelona reach agreement with Xavi Hernandez to terminate contract, no salary will be paid out

Xavi Hernandez’s tenure as Barcelona is now officially over. Last week, it was announced that the 44-year-old would be sacked after the season came to its conclusion, and talks have been ongoing over the last couple of days to organise a dissolution of the agreement between the two parties.

As per Sport, that agreement has now been sealed, and it was rather straightforward. Xavi was true to his word that he will not take any of the salary owed to him for the remaining 12 months of his contract.

Barcelona did agree to pay the €2.5m that Xavi paid out of the his own money to leave Al-Sadd in 2021, before which he took over as head coach, replacing Ronald Koeman. However, that was rather insignificant compared to the amount that he would have received, had he not waived the final year of his contract.

Hansi Flick will officially sign on as Barcelona manager in the next few days, starting a new era for the club. It remains to be seen how well he stacks up to Xavi’s 2.5-year spell in charge.
