Barcelona President considering sensational return for transfer guru

Barcelona President Joan Laporta is reportedly considering a second move for Sporting Director Mateu Alemany, who left the club left than a year ago. Alemany worked as Director of Football for two years alongside then Sporting Director Jordi Cruyff, but left several months after the appointment of Deco.

However Relevo report that Laporta is thinking about trying to bring Alemany back, who guided Barcelona through a particularly difficult time in terms of their finances, and still managed to oversee an overhaul of the squad. Barcelona have made no movements currently, but Laporta believes he could be decisive in the transfer market, and values his relationship with La Liga too. Equally, he does not want Alemany’s arrival to mean the exit of Deco, but the same outlet predict their coexistence as ‘highly improbable’.

It is not yet clear whether Alemany would accept a return, having reportedly turned down Atletico Madrid this season, as he was not keen to work with Sporting Director Andrea Berta, preferring to have full power. Nor is it clear whether Deco would accept the return of Alemany. Despite stating that they could work together in his opening months in the role, one of his demands to come in was supposedly full decision-making power.
