Toni Kroos bows out as Real Madrid held on final Champions League audition

Real Madrid have warmed up for the 2024 UEFA Champions League final with a 0-0 La Liga draw against Real Betis.

Los Blancos have been coasting along towards their June 1 showdown with Borussia Dortmund after sowing up the Spanish title last month.

Carlo Ancelotti rolled in his big guns for the final league game of the season with his starting XI expected to remain the same at Wembley Stadium.

However, despite the Italian looking to sign off with a win in Madrid, his team struggled for fluency, in their last pre-final test.

Toni Kroos’ goodbye was the main feature pre-game as the German international prepares to leave Madrid and retire this summer.

Real Betis were denied a goal by VAR before the break with Vinicius Junior kept out for the hosts.

It was Real Betis who carried the greater threat in the second period, with Thibaut Courtois making two key saves, before Kroos was denied a fairy tale end as his late free kick was kept out.

Ancelotti’s side are due to head to London on May 28 to start their preparations for the final.
