Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has been on a rollercoaster ride in the last few weeks, going from resignation to manager for next season to potential sacking next week. It seems to be the consensus that he will leave, and it looks as though Hansi Flick will take over next week.
About a month after he thought that news would be confirmed. As per Sport, Laporta had decided to move on from Xavi to Hansi Flick on the famous day when Xavi was ratified as coach. That was what agent Pini Zahavi understood, and informed his client, Flick, that he would be the next coach.
This tallies with reports that Zahavi was furious about the decision to continue with Xavi, and was not responding to Laporta’s messages. Flick, on that Wednesday the 24th of April, had also revealed to one of the Barcelona squad, with whom he holds a good relationship, that he would be taking over too.
It explains certainly why there has been so much confusion in the Barcelona squad. Flick has managed Robert Lewandowski at Bayern Munich, while Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Ilkay Gundogan have also been coached by Flick in the German national team, albeit with less success. It seems likely that one of those trio was the player in question.
