Real Madrid star suffers worrying setback in injury recovery

Real Madrid’s season has been plagued by regular injury problems, although despite this, they’ve still managed to win La Liga in dominant fashion, and also be in another Champions League final. Currently, they only have two players out: Aurelien Tchouameni and David Alaba.

In Alaba’s case, he has been out since December after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, becoming the third player to do so this season (after Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao). Unfortunately, his recovery is not going as smoothly as the others.

That’s because Alaba has had to undergo arthroscopic surgery in his native Austria, as reported by Relevo. This is considered to be a very bad sign at this stage of his recovery, and his return to football is now expected to be pushed back.

Alaba had been on course to return to action for Real Madrid at the start of next season, but he now may not return until the back-end of 2024. This could mean that club bosses aim to sign another defender during the summer, especially with Nacho Fernandez set to depart.
