Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti – ‘I’m better than ever, but I know the stick is coming’

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has said that he is enjoying himself in his role at the moment, but was simply waiting for the tide to turn.

The Italian has been and will be the subject of many flowery analyses of Real Madrid‘s season, having taken the decision to move Jude Bellingham forward into more goalscoring positions, which ultimately proved the difference in la Liga. The pressure is off, but it won’t be for long.

Ancelotti was asked how he was in what was his 103rd press conference of the season, ahead of their 52nd game against Alaves.

“Better than ever. The honeymoon continues. I am happy and excited. I do the press conferences without pressure, you are too affectionate, that’s the only problem. I know that sooner or later the stick will come, but as there is no stick now I am enjoying it.”

The hardest part of the season came barely a month into the campaign, as Los Blancos fell to a 3-1 defeat to city rivals Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano, but it turned out to be useful for Ancelotti and company.

“I have no doubt that the most difficult one. We lost a game, it was there. Since that game we have been able to understand that we have had to change things in defence. That defeat helped us change in defence which has now been good for us. It is turning out to be an easy season thanks to the players,” Ancelotti explained.

It remains their only Liga defeat of the year, the other this season also coming in the same stadium, during the Copa del Rey. Ancelotti was heavily criticised for starting Luka Modric in behind Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo Goes, but since has received plenty of praise throughout the season.
