La Liga side in talks to sign Mason Greenwood from Manchester United

Last summer, Mason Greenwood completed a controversial move to Getafe, on the back of returning to football after 18 months in the wilderness. The 22-year-old had been out of action after being charged with attempted rape, although the case against him was later dropped after a key witness pulled out of court proceedings.

Greenwood has impressed during his time with Getafe, amassing eight goals and six assists. His performances have attracted interest from clubs across Europe, including the likes of Juventus and Atletico Madrid. Manchester United are reportedly open to a sale this summer, which has looked increasingly likely.

This would have ruled Getafe out of the race, as they could only afford another loan deal. However, they have made their move to do that, with The Athletic reporting that they are in talks with Man Utd to extend Greenwood’s stay for the 2024-25 season.

It would be a very shrewd piece of business if Getafe can secure Greenwood’s services for another 12 months. It remains to be seen whether these negotiations end with an agreement.
