“My work is more suffering than happiness” – Carlo Ancelotti opens up on life as Real Madrid manager

Under the stewardship of Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid are having a fine season – even if their recent form has not been particularly good. They’ve already won the Spanish Super Cup, and look destined to win La Liga too. A treble could also be on the cards if they are triumphant in the Champions League for the 15th time in their history.

Ancelotti’s future had been the subject of intense speculation in 2023, as his contract was due to expire this summer. However, in December, he signed a two-year extension, which will keep him in Madrid until the end of the 2025-26 season.

Speaking to the media ahead of Real Madrid’s Champions League match-up with RB Leipzig (via Diario AS), Ancelotti opened up on life at Los Blancos, and revealed just how much he enjoys holding the position.

“It would be a very broad speech. I really like my job, especially here at Real Madrid. My work is more suffering than happiness, because there are so many things to handle. There are people around you who aren’t happy, and it affects you.”

One of the issues affecting Real Madrid and Ancelotti in the last few days has been referees, following the controversy surrounding Jesus Gil Manzano’s performance during the match against Valencia on Saturday. The Italian coach admitted that he doesn’t enjoy addressing officials, whether that be before or after fixtures.

“I don’t like to think about the referee before a match, and not afterwards either.”

Ancelotti will hope to earn a little bit more happiness when Real Madrid take on Leipzig on Wednesday. Should they avoid defeat, a place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League will be theirs.
