Real Valladolid starlet Ivan Fresneda was one of the most talked about names in the January transfer window, but with the market closed, Fresneda has had a chance to focus on his football again. No doubt his future is bright though, and the 18-year-old has spoken publicly about interest in him from a number of major clubs.
Fresneda told Diario AS that he was learning English, but not ahead of a move to the Premier League. He is also studying German.
“I have always valued studies for the future, beyond football. I am a person who likes to learn languages.”
He also admitted to watching plenty of other leagues, but again that this was not something that had changed since he was linked to big clubs.
I follow them a lot because my family are very into football. I watch almost all the football I can, it’s something I’ve been engrossed in since I was little, but I’m already telling you that what I watch the most is Spanish football. After all, it is the one that I have to give the most importance to.”
His idols though do play abroad.
“It is a fashionable position that today is valued much more than before and there are real quality players. Achraf [Hakimi], Reece James and Alexander-Arnold are three of my favourites.”
Fresneda has been linked to the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal and Juventus, but is entirely focused on saving La Pucela from relegation.
“It’s a source of pride, but I always say it: I’m also in a big team, Valladolid. My head only thinks about my team. And these days, also in the national team.”
Fresneda initially lost his place in the side towards the end of the January window, but Pacheta is now trusting him ahead of Luis Perez again. A sturdy and quick defender, he seems likely to make Valladolid money sooner or later.
