Levante will be without a senior goalkeeper against Athletic Bilbao this weekend as Aitor Fernandez is working at a polling station.
The Spain national elections take place this weekend and Fernandez is working at his local polling station, while his back-up Oier is out injured.
The club's lawyers are still working to avoid Aitor's presence at the polling station, report Diario AS, but they will not find out the result of their appeal until Friday – two days before the game.
28-year-old Fernandez has played in all 12 La Liga matches this campaign for Levante, including in Saturday’s 3-1 victory at home to league leaders Barcelona.
The situation now means Dani Cardenas is set to start in goal for Paco Lopez’s side – the shot-stopper has come through the club’s youth system but never made a senior appearance.
This unusual set of circumstances has now given Cardenas his chance to make his senior debut in the San Mames.
