Atalanta have completed the season-long loan signing of central defender Simon Kjaer from Sevilla, the club have confirmed.
The Bergamo-based club have already landed Luis Muriel and Guilherme Arana from Sevilla this summer after Martin Skrtel cancelled his contract with the Italian side.
The 30-year-old joined the Andalusian club from Fener two summers ago and has made 64 first-team appearances for Los Rojiblancos in the time since.
Sevilla have bolstered their defence this summer with the arrivals of Diego Carlos and Jules Kounde – two of 12 new incorporations into Julen Lopetegui’s side this summer.
Sergi Gomez is another central defender whose futures at the Seville-based club remain unclear, while Gabriel Mercado has already left the club this summer after his contract expired and Joris Gnagnon has joined Rennes on loan.
Kjaer is a hugely experienced defender who can count Palermo, Wolfsburg, Roma and Lille among his former clubs before spending two years in Turkey between 2015 and 2017.
Milan had previously been linked with a move for the Denmark international – who has won 89 caps for his national side – but he now appears more likely to return to Istanbul.
Kjaer looks set to be part of a huge renovation process at Sevilla.
