Marcelo: ‘Leaving Real Madrid has never crossed my mind’

Real Madrid defender Marcelo has confirmed leaving the club ‘has no crossed my mind’ amid ongoing links with a move to Juventus.

The 30-year-old is contracted to Los Blancos until 2022, after signing a new deal with the club in September 2017, stating at the time that he wished to end his career in the Spanish capital.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who was close friends with the defender during his nine years at Madrid, joined Juve in a €100m deal last summer.

“No it has never crossed my mind,” Marcelo replied to Brazilian media outlet Esporte Interativo, when asked if he had considered leaving Madrid.

“For me there is no reason to leave, I have full trust in my own ability and of course, if Madrid want me to leave then yes, I will accept it.

“But I am confident this will not be the case and even if it was, it would be a very sad day for me because I love this club.

“I had a fantastic relationship with Zidane, I gave everything for his coaching and I get on very well with Ronaldo too, so it was he left after we played together for nine years.”
