Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has described himself as ‘a number nine who has the soul of a number ten’.
The Frenchman put in a virtuoso performance in Sunday night’s 4-2 win at Espanyol, netting two goals and providing an assist as he wooed viewers.
“I really enjoyed my performance, I’m not sure if it is my strongest of the campaign,” Benzema told reporters, as cited by Marca.
“I want to keep doing more and more, obviously scoring goals and providing assists is important but so are the much smaller details in the game.
“A lot of people always measure a striker by goals, but I believe I am a number nine who has the soul of a number ten.”
Benzema now has 15 goals to his name for the campaign, three more than in the entirety of last season.
