Athletic Club Bilbao have confirmed the return of Ibai Gomez from Alaves after activating his €3.5m release clause.
The 28-year-old was one of the stars of high-flying Alaves but his contract was due to expire at the end of the campaign.
The set-piece specialist joined Alaves from Athletic in 2016 and has scored 19 goals since and is now an instrumental figure in the first-team.
Gomez helped Alaves to a top-half finish in his debut campaign alongside their first ever Copa del Rey final while he has been instrumental in their current top four placement in La Liga.
The midfielder previously played for Los Leones between 2010 and 2016, netting 17 goals in 145 appearances.
Like Iker Munain before him, Gomez has opted not to have a release clause in his deal at the San Mames.
