Former Valencia and Las Palmas Coach Pako Ayestaran has highlighted how Spanish Coaches struggle to succeed at Real Madrid.
Julen Lopetegui (pictured) appears to be struggling in the role with the European champions while Rafael Benitez, Jose Antonio Camacho, Mariano Garcia Remon, Juan Ramon Lopez Caro and Juande Ramos are other examples who have not thrived.
“It seems that Spanish Coaches cannot succeed at Real Madrid,” Ayestaran told Radio Marca.
“It is a surprising aspect but you would need to experience the club and intense circumstances that surround it to understand why this is happening.
“Spanish Coaches generally are succeeding and enjoying a lot of success everywhere they go, so it shows the methodology is not at fault.”
The last Spanish Coach to win a league title with Madrid was Vicente del Bosque, most recently boss of the national team.
