Four Spanish clubs will be involved in today’s Champions League draw, which takes place in Monte Carlo at 17.00 UK time.

The new rules for the competition mean the top four La Liga sides have advanced to the group stage automatically, and the Spanish sides will learn their fate this afternoon.

Three of the four clubs are in the top pot – Real Madrid as competition holders, Atletico Madrid as Europa League winners and Barcelona as Spanish champions, while Valencia are in Pot 3 after three seasons away from the tournament.

None of the Spanish sides can meet each other until the quarter-final stage at the earliest.
