Antoine Griezmann admitted being presented with the World Cup trophy ahead of Saturday’s win over Rayo Vallecano was ‘a very proud moment’.
Alongside France international teammates Thomas Lemar and Lucas Hernandez, the forward showed off their summer achievement in front of the Atleti fans.
The match itself was a tame one, with Griezmann scoring the only goal of the game to seal three points for Diego Simeone’s side.
“It was a very proud moment,” Griezmann reflected on BeIn Sports after the match.
“It was important for us to be able to celebrate with the fans here and to savour the moment, it was special for all of us.
“We did not play a great game against Rayo, maybe we were a little tired, but we know we must improve for this and keep working.
“The objective this season is to win all the games we have and hopefully that can take us far.”
