Abelardo Fernandez insists Alaves will stay up for a third successive season ‘if we play like we did’ against Barcelona, despite their 3-0 defeat.
“We had a good match defensively,” the Coach said after the game.
“You always have to defend against Barca. They had chances, but Pacheco was very good. We had some dangerous outlets to score a goal, like we did last year.
“Ultimately the goal came through the usual route [Messi]. His first free kick hit the crossbar, but then he fired it under the wall…
“After that, the rest of the goals came, which was a shame for us. Still I’m delighted, we’ve been a team and we played against a great team.
“If we play like we did, I’m sure we’ll achieve our objective, which is staying up. Sobrino? He had cramp, he was stiff, but it’s nothing serious. He was tired.
“We won’t rest, our next two games are at home and there are no easy matches. At Mendizorroza, I think the team will play like they did here. We’ll win games that way.”
