Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu is eyeing ‘a historic year’ for the club and has urged the team to go ‘one better’ than last season.
Citing the club’s one failure last season – elimination in the quarter-finals of the Champions League – Bartomeu was in buoyant mood ahead of the new La Liga season getting underway.
“We are entering a new season with lots of excitement and positivity,” Bartomeu told a Barcelona conference, in quotes carried by Marca.
“Last season was a magnificent one for the club – we lifted our seventh league title in ten years and won the domestic double, this season we aspire to go one step further.
“It was important to start with lifting the Spanish Supercopa against a team (Sevilla) who had already played competitive games this season.
“Lionel Messi is now the player with the most titles in Barcelona’s history, but everyone has the hunger to keep winning more.
“We want this to be a historic year for the club.”
