Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has announced his retirement from international football with Spain.
The decision comes as no surprise, given Pique already confirmed the World Cup in Russia would be his last major tournament.
“I talked to Luis Enrique a few days ago,” he said at a Press conference.
“He called me and I told him that I’d already made my decision some time ago. It was a very beautiful period, which I’m very happy about but now I want to focus on Barca.
“I have several years left at Barca, I hope it’s a case of the more the merrier, and I want to enjoy them.”
The 31-year-old made his debut for Spain in 2009 and went on to represent his country 102 times, winning two European Championships and a World Cup.
However, his last three years with La Roja saw him jeered by sets of fans out of his support for Catalan independience.
