West Ham are strongest-placed to sign out-of-favour Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes but his agents are reportedly ‘waiting for a better deal’.
A report in reputable Catalan radio outlet RAC1 claims the Hammers lead the way for Gomes but the demands of agents and an injury may scupper the deal.
The 25-year-old has admitted to ‘going through a bit of a hell’ at the club due to his poor form and the volume of scrutiny he was under.
Diario Sport have previously reported a possible loan return to Valencia but the preference of Barca is to sell him to a non-Spanish club.
Gomes joined Barca from Valencia in 2016 in a deal worth up to €55m but an injury sustained in pre-season earlier this week could rule him out until October, potentially jeopardising any deal.
Last week, a report in El Mundo Deportivo claimed the Hammers would use Portuguese teenager Domingos Quina in a deal to lure Gomes to East London.
18-year-old Quina is reportedly on a shortlist for the Catalan giants, who have the idea of integrating him into their B side for next season.
The Hammers could use the winger as leverage in a deal for Gomes, who looks set to leave the Camp Nou this summer.
