Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui has asserted that his club will ‘continue to enjoy’ Luka Modric this season.
Reports in Italy remain confident that Modric will follow Cristiano Ronaldo to Serie A, despite Florentino Perez warning only €750m was enough to sign him, with one even claiming Inter have already prepared a bumper €11.5m salary for the Croatian playmaker.
However, Lopetegui said after his side’s 3-1 win against Juventus in the International Champions Cup on Saturday: “The President’s already given an answer, I don’t have much else to add.
“Modric’s an extraordinary player, we await him with open arms. I talked to him after his excellent World Cup and we’ll see if he can play on August 15 [in the European Super Cup], our first big objective of the season.
“I told him he was a player I’m passionate about, I love him and he knows it. He’ll be happy with the proposal he receives here.
“He’ll be happy to play football, like he already was, at Real Madrid. Luka is a Madrid player and will continue to be, I have no doubt.
“We’ve enjoyed having him and we’ll continue to do so.”
