Milan are set to battle it out with Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea for the signature of Mateo Kovacic.
The Italians are ready to put an offer on the table for the 24-year-old Real Madrid midfielder in the coming days, reports La Repubblica, and believe he would look favourably on a return to Milan, where he spent two years with rivals Inter between 2013 and 2015 following a move from Dinamo Zagreb.
The Croatia international is understood to have already indicated he is not interested in a move to Manchester United, where he feels he would not fit in with Jose Mourinho’s style of football, although he is determined to find an exit route out of the Santiago Bernabeu during the transfer window.
Nonetheless, if he is to eventually end up in the Premier League the likes of City and Chelsea will need to act quickly to finalise a deal as the window in England closes on August 9.
European champions Madrid are expected to hold out for €60m for Kovacic, having signed him back in August 2015 for a reported €35m including add-ons.
