Young Boys defender Kevin Mbabu, 23, has emerged as an alternative for Real Betis as they look to strengthen their right-back position.
The player’s agent Umberto Riva revealed there has been contact with the Andalusians, although full negotiations are yet to take place.
“There are several clubs monitoring Kevin’s situation and one of them is Real Betis,” Riva told ABC.
“He is still young but when the opportunities have arrived he has played very well. At the moment we’ve had contact with intermediaries, but not directly with the club.
“He had a spell with Newcastle United in the Premier League and Arsenal also wanted him, but he returned to Switzerland for family reasons.
“However, he has progressed a lot and had a very good season with Young Boys. He is well-known in England and now we’ll see if he can do that in Spain.
“We are not ruling anything out, even if it means staying at Young Boys, and there is no hurry.
“Kevin is very versatile and can play on the right and the left, but we have various proposals so anything could happen.
“But the market right now is madness. One day a move appears far away and the next day you are signing a contract,” he maintained.
Swiss-born Mbabu spent four years in England with Newcastle, where he made just three league appearances, before returning to his own country on loan at Young Boys in 2016, with the deal being made permanent 12 months later.
