Karim Benzema – the only player to start the game who began the Champions League final victory over Liverpool – pulled one back for Madrid in first-half stoppage time.
Gareth Bale started for Madrid but his only effort of note was a curling shot from the edge of the area that flashed wide of goal, while new signing Vinicius Junior looked lively.
New Madrid shot-stopper Andriy Lunin made a second half appearance, keeping a clean sheet, while new €40m full-back Alvaro Odriozola began the game.
