Julen Lopetegui praised the ‘great character’ of his Real Madrid side and insisted there were positives despite a loss to Manchester United.
Karim Benzema’s goal was not enough for Madrid to fall to defeat in their first pre-season outing after early goals from Alexis Sanchez and Ander Herrera.
“The team showed great character and we also displayed plenty of positives,” Lopetegui is cited as saying by Diario AS.
“There were no injuries picked up and generally speaking the team had an acceptable game, we are happy with how things went and now we must carry on and continue to improve.
“The result was not important, we obviously look to win in every game but that issue was not important in relation to this game.
“We are in the preparation phase for the season, we look to build and work on concepts that we have shown in training.
“This was our first game of the pre-season and it was their (United’s) fifth, so we did well.”
