Atletico Madrid have completed the signing of PSV Eindhoven defender and Colombian international Santiago Arias, it has been confirmed.
The 26-year-old – predominantly a right full-back – will join Los Rojiblancos as a direct replacement for Inter-bound Sime Vrsaljko.
Arias has played in the first team of the Dutch giants for the past five seasons, winning three league titles and being voted onto the Eredivise Team of the Year last season.
“Atletico Madrid and PSV Eindhoven have reached an agreement to transfer Santiago Arias to our club,” read a statement from Atleti on Tuesday.
“The right-back becomes a new Atletico player after signing for the next five seasons.”
He also impressed during this summer’s World Cup for Colombia, where he started all four matches.
Napoli had been reported to be favourites for the defender but he will now instead link-up with Diego Simeone’s side.
