Diego Simeone has come out in praise of Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Antonio Adan after his heroics against Arsenal.
The International Champions Cup friendly in Singapore finished 1-1 after 90 minutes before Adan, signed in the summer from Real Betis, saved three penalties in the shoot-out and scored the winning spot-kick by crashing home past Peter Cech.
“Adan started on the right foot, responded at the right moment when we needed him, and handled the game well when it went to penalties,” Simeone told reporters afterwards.
“Bringing him in a positive thing for us as he has plenty of experience. It’s not easy to play against a team like Arsenal, who are very good in attack, but it was a good match.
“In these games the first thing is to coach the players, especially the younger ones. We have nine professionals here and the rest are youngsters, who did very well.
“Until August 6 we cannot count on our full squad and we will need to adapt their preparations with the best way to represent the club.”
