Real Betis defender Antonio Barragan has joined the club on a permanent basis from Middlesbrough after his contract clause was triggered.
The 30-year-old joined Los Verdiblancos on a season-long loan from the English club last summer, but a clause existed that a further two-year contract would be activated.
Barragan joined Boro in 2016 for a €2.5m fee from Valencia and started 26 Premier League matches at the Riverside Stadium but was unable to prevent the club’s relegation last season.
The right-back has started 28 La Liga matches for Quique Setien’s side last campaign and helped the club return to the Europa League with a top-six finish.
He becomes the second signing for the club this summer after the signing of Eibar midfielder Takashi Inui.
