Several clubs have attempted to ambush Roque Mesa’s permanent move to Sevilla, according to reports in the Spanish press.
Villarreal and Newcastle United have both made enquiries about the deep-lying midfielder, who has returned to Swansea City following his stint on loan at Los Rojiblancos.
A report in ABC de Sevilla also clarifies how Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic is a big admirer of the former Las Palmas midfielder, and would continue a pursuit should he be appointed Chelsea manager.
Both Mesa and Jokanovic share the same agent – Luis Alonso – but despite this link, Sevilla are still poised to complete the permanent signing of the midfielder.
The 28-year-old started three matches under interim Coach Joaquin Caparros, who is now Sevilla Director of Football, having not started in a La Liga match under previous Coach Vincenzo Montella.
Mesa joined Swansea in a club record £11m fee from Las Palmas last season, but struggled to adapt to the English Premier League and the Swans have since suffered relegation.
