Clarence Seedorf has urged Real Madrid to perform Barcelona a guard of honour as ‘they wouldn’t be the same’ without the Catalans.
Madrid have already confirmed that they will not make the gesture when they travel to Camp Nou for the Clasico next weekend, despite Barca needing just a point from their match at Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday.
“I’m a ‘madridista’, but I’m also a UEFA ambassador and represent their values,” the Depor boss said at a Press conference.
“Fair Play is important, as are sporting values. Madrid without Barcelona wouldn’t be the same and vice versa.
“I believe it’s usually done in Spain. It’s nice and a gesture for the youngsters. We have to educate who sees us and admires us, so it’s crucial that the greats do it, whether it’s Messi or Ronaldo, Madrid or Barcelona. That’s what I think.
“I’d like to see a gesture of respect, which puts sport first and rivalries aside, as beautiful as they are.”
