Vincenzo Montella believes that if Sevilla qualify for the Europa League it would represent a ‘good season’ for the club.
Los Rojiblancos reached the Champions League quarter-finals and Copa del Rey final, but risk missing out on a European qualification spot as they currently languish 7th in La Liga.
“The board heard how I viewed the situation and how I could meet the club’s objectives,” Montella told reporters at his pre-match press conference, as cited by Marca.
“I gave my analysis of our season and reinstated my belief that we could qualify for the Europa League and if we do, that represents a good season for us.
“I understand that many fans will not be happy at our current results but we must remain united in order to achieve our objectives.
“We need to support each other and the players, to give each other confidence and momentum going into the home straight.
“I am glad to be able to finish the season as I have faith in my methods and I have belief in my players, while there have been other factors I cannot control.
“When the results are bad the Coach is the guilty party but when we win, the situation will be different.”
