Vincenzo Montella says he is relishing his “incredible opportunity” at Sevilla as “this is the ideal club for me to express my ideas.”
Montella succeeds Eduardo Berizzo on a contract until 2019 and will be assisted by former Sevilla midfielder Enzo Maresca.
“I must thank Sevilla for this incredible opportunity,” began the former Milan boss at his official unveiling on Saturday.
“I want to win more as a Coach and this is the ideal club for me to express my ideas. I loved the stadium and the club when I came here with Fiorentina.
“I watched Sevilla’s matches last season and also this year, especially in the Champions League, but I haven’t seen their most recent ones, so it’ll be the first thing I do, seeing what’s happening with the team. Sevilla have to play with passion.
“N’Zonzi? He’s a very good player and the first thing I’ll do is talk with him to find out what he thinks.
“Transfers? I still haven’t talked to the sporting director. I’ve only talked to him about my ideas, based on the players we already have.
“I’ll talk to Oscar and, if we need to, we’ll act [in the market]. My style of play is channelled through passion, which starts with the players. Playing football comes after that.
“Derby against Betis? I’ve played and coached in derbies. I know they’re special games and it’s a shame that I didn’t come here sooner.
“I like to start a season with a derby. It prepares your heart and head for what comes later.
“Maresca? Enzo made history at this club, he has my respect and is respected in Italy too. He’s helping me a lot in forging a relationship with the club, and I promise that I’ll learn Spanish quickly.”
