Karim Benzema has been criticised by former England international Gary Lineker as being ‘overrated’.
The Real Madrid striker missed a gilt-edged opportunity in the 1-1 Champions League draw with Tottenham Hotspur at the Santiago Bernabeu, heading straight at goalkeeper Hugo Lloris from close range when it seemed easier to score.
It prompted Lineker – a former Barcelona and Spurs player and now a television presenter – to question the Frenchman’s goals to game ratio.
“Is it me or is Benzema a tad overrated? A goal every other game in a team as strong as Real Madrid is nada especial. Decent, not great,” he posted on Twitter.
