David Villa insists “I never lost my enthusiasm” for Spain after marking his return during Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Italy.
Villa appeared as a late substitute for Isco at the Santiago Bernabeu to end his three-year exile from the Spain team, and the veteran striker was understandably delighted with his cameo and the win.
“Thanks to everyone for showing me so much affection. It’s been a very special day and I’m very happy,” he told Teledeporte.
“It was a great win against Italy and qualification rests with us. Isco’s a great lad, he’s doing well and I’m very happy about what’s happening to him at the moment.
“I never lost my enthusiasm for coming here and I must thank those who have shown faith in me. I’ll continue working.”
