Serie A giants Lazio are closing in on a €3m move for Espanyol forward Felipe Caicedo, who had been linked to newly-promoted Girona.
Reports in Marca earlier this week suggested the 28-year-old was not part of the club’s party travelling to Indonesia on their pre-season tour and had been granted permission to skip training to find a new club.
Gazzamercato have now reported the striker is closing in on a move to Rome, with Espanyol seeing him as dispensable after the return of Sergio Garcia and permanent deal for Leo Bapistao.
Despite being linked to Girona, the Ecuadorian’s €2m-a-year wages were said to have hampered that deal from being processed.
Having had spells at Manchester City, Malaga, Sporting CP, Basel, Lokomotiv Moscow and Levante only netted twice in 27 league appearances for Espanyol last season.
