Atletico Madrid are preparing a late €15m bid for Roque Mesa despite the Las Palmas midfielder being close to agreeing a move to Swansea City, say reports.
According to Diario AS, Los Rojiblancos have trumped the Swans bid of €13m and the Gran Canarian side are further enticed by their offer of letting the 28-year-old remain at the club until January, when Atleti can register players again.
Diego Simeone’s side are also willing to offer Alessio Cerci, who Los Amarillos have registered an interest in, as part of any deal.
The retirement of Tiago and a long-term injury to Augusto Fernandez has ensured Atletico are short in defensive midfield cover and the club see Mesa as an ideal upgrade to their squad.
